About the Pictures

Drawn with AI, checked by hand

An image model from OpenAI draws the pictures from our descriptions. Then we look at every single page: Are all lines closed? Is nothing cut off? Does it fit the age we list? Anything that doesn’t pass is redrawn or dropped.

Every image file also states in its metadata that it was made with AI.

Mandalas drawn by code

The mandalas, stars and snowflakes are drawn by a small program. That’s why they are perfectly symmetric, and each number always gives the same mandala.

Templates

For the letter to Santa, advent calendars, cards and gift tags, the picture comes from the AI, while we set every letter, line and number ourselves. So the spelling is always right.

Ready to print

Every page is sized for US Letter and A4 in portrait, with a margin so your printer doesn’t cut anything off. Pure black and white only, which saves ink.

Coloring on a tablet

Tap a color, then an area, and it fills up to the lines. This happens only on your device; nothing is uploaded. “Save” puts the finished picture on your device.

How you may use the pictures

Print and color them as often as you like: at home, in preschool, in the classroom, at clubs and at birthday parties. Free of charge.

Please don’t post the pictures on other websites or sell them. You’re welcome to share the link to the page.

Who we are

Coloring Whale is a small, independent project by Daniel Lehner from Munich, Germany, and the English sister site of Ausmalwal (ausmalwal.de). Ideas for new pictures and reports of mistakes are welcome: kontakt@ausmalwal.de
